They will last you longer and in a very tight pinch, you can plant dry beans from the grocery store and sometimes they will grow in a garden. So it's good to keep them on hand. Canned goods are the next thing. Make sure you get the longest expiration date that you can find. Dry good as well. Get a few boxes of dry milk. Folks often forget that but it's good to have on hand on case you can't get dairy products. Dry beans are better if you can get them.
